Lizzie’s Story

“The Erasmus+ internship I did after university was really formative for me. I gained valuable work experience that helped kick-start my career, I significantly improved my language skills, and it made me feel really connected to Europe. I hoped to have the opportunity to live in the EU longer-term one day, but I wasn’t able to because of the timing of Covid lockdowns followed by Brexit…”

“It’s hugely positive that young people in the UK and EU may once again have opportunities to live and work abroad through Erasmus and a proposed UK–EU youth mobility scheme. However, many people now in their late 20s and early 30s missed out on the opportunity to properly live and work in the EU due to the timing of Brexit and the Covid-19 pandemic. To fully realise the benefits of a UK–EU youth mobility scheme, it should be open to people aged 18–35.”
